Not happy, Mary!
Story by Darcy Shedden

Totally unimpressed, Mary certainly had not given permission for the two to set up residence in her new extension!
Like the famed movie queen Greta Garbo, Mary, Taronga's 40-yearold
Bornean Gibbon, "vants to be alone", and has always resisted
any attempts by keepers to find her a companion.
Recently, as part of continuing efforts to keep her solitary life
interesting, a beautiful, green, outdoor house was built especially
for her, high up in her tree - a special place, where she could sit and
calmly munch on lovely tidbits.

But no sooner was the house completed than two pesky,
feathered house guests in the shape of Tawny Frogmouths arrived
and settled in like it was their own.
Totally unimpressed, Mary certainly had not given permission
for the two to set up residence in her new extension! Weeks of
noisy intimidation followed their arrival but unfortunately, for the
first time, it looks as if Mary has met her match. The frogmouths have moved in and intend to stay.
So...they all sit...and stare. Mary, her long,
gibbon arms folded across her chest, squatting on
the branch just outside her house, built especially
for her, while inside, the frogmouths, every inch
their typical, immutable selves, sit on their newly
made nest inside the house that they, thank you,
are sure was built just for them.
Another of the many battles of nature!
